Abstract
"The catastrophic earthquake in Haiti on 12 January 2010 and the associated loss of lives, injuries and devastation brought the world’s attention to the issue of disaster response. The reports and images of the effects of the earthquake in a country which is already among the most deprived in the world forced the global community to drum up a large scale operation in Haiti focusing on rescue, medical aid, maintaining law and order, as well as moving towards rehabilitation and rebuilding (through steps such as the announcement of plans for debt relief from the Group of Seven countries)"
