Machado de Assis e o olhar irônico no país dos bacharéis [Machado de Assis and the ironic look at the country of graduates]

Abstract

"No artigo, estuda-se a visão crítica de Machado de Assis sobre a cultura jurídica brasileira do seu tempo, tal como expressa em alguns contos e crônicas do autor. Para tanto, apontam-se a relação entre bacharelismo e a figura do medalhão, bem como os problemas de eficácia social do direito, que chegavam à produção legal da ilegalidade em benefício das oligarquias. A ambiguidade entre legalidade e ilegalidade nessa cultura jurídica foi apropriada para fins privados, tendo em vista as dificuldades de aplicação da norma nos diferentes contextos políticos e sociais do Brasil no final da monarquia e início da república" ["In the article, we study the critical view of Machado de Assis on culture Brazilian company of its time, as expressed in some short stories and chronicles the author.
