Abstract

"Am Anfang des 21. Jahrhunderts kann eine fundierte Antwort auf die Frage nach der Zukunft der Demokratie in Europa nicht mehr gegeben werden, ohne systematisch die Entwicklung der europäischen Integration und ihre Folgen für die politischen Systeme der Mitgliedsstaaten in Betracht zu ziehen (vgl. Wimmel 2008). Aufgrund des hohen Grades der politischadministrativen Verflechtungen zwischen supranationaler und nationaler Ebene sind die Verfassungsorgane, Rechtssysteme, Bürokratien und im zunehmendem Maße auch andere gesellschaftliche Systeme der Mitgliedsstaaten inzwischen integraler Bestandteil der europäischen Governance" ["At the beginning of the 21st century, a sound response to the question of the future of democracy in Europe no longer be given without systematically to consider the development of European integration and its impact on the political systems of the Member States in question (see.
