The key factors of teaching English to young learners: a case study of The Stepping Stones School Surabaya
AbstractOne of the ways to introduce English is by using English at the early young learners’ educational system. It is important to recognize the methods and the key factors of teaching English to young learners. The school of early young learners need to choose the methods and the key factors in using English as the language at the classroom moreover to refer the researches that the early young learners phase is crucial related to the brain development of human being. The methods and the key factors in teaching English to young learners need to be considered and planned well as to be applied well too. This research is trying to describe the methods and the key factors of teaching English to young learners from Stepping Stones School Surabaya as one of early young learners’ schools in Surabaya by doing observations to the classes and the students, interviews to the teachers and the parents of the students. The researcher also learned and comprehend the written curriculum of the school. That it is important to plan and apply the curriculum while it is also important to provide the rich English environment for early young learners to use and apply English in their daily base life. In dealing with young learners, it is important to be considered that early young learners are unique and special that they are different from the adults. Besides the settlement of the curriculum, it is important to involve the students’ parents in the process of learning and teaching. The teachers are the important part of the educational system that they become the ones applying the curriculum to deal directly with early young learners. May this research bring insight on how English to early young learners in Surabaya.
