Abstract

"O presente ensaio tenta fazer um inventário elementar de acontecimentos que ocorreram no Médio Rio Doce, os quais foram alinhavados ao propósito de colonização. Tal inventário tem por intento servir de pano de fundo para a compreensão da diferença que essa região constitui em Minas Gerais, ao não apresentar um grupo religioso hegemônico, devido à ausência de imigrantes protestantes, sendo as igrejas evangélicas locais o resultado do protestantismo de missão. Mediante a ausência de investigações sobre o assunto e inspirado pelo historiador Bronislaw Gemerek, que mostra ser possível tomar a literatura como história social, o autor remete-se a literatura (romanceada ou autobiográfica) para entender o processo de colonização da região" ["This essay tries to make a basic inventory of events that occurred in the Middle Rio Doce, which were tacked to the purpose of colonization.
