Einstein, relatividad y mecánica cuántica en la reinvención de la educación en América Latina

Abstract

Carlos Montúfar is an Ecuadorian physicist who has dedicated his life to education. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics at Notre Dame. A firm believer in the Liberal Arts he cofounded Universidad San Francisco de Quito-USFQ, a private university that has grown in just 29 years to be the leading higher education institution in Ecuador. USFQ with over 8000 students and close to 400 full time faculty now offers degrees in all fields including medicine, law, architecture and engineering. In 1995 he headed the foundation of Colegio Menor, a private PK-12 school in Quito. At present the School (Advanced Ed Accredited) has over 1600 students and has recently established a similar school in Guayaquil, the largest city in Ecuador. The unforeseen success of these institutions lies on quality faculty, a liberal arts curriculum based on the founding principles of “goodness, beauty and truth” that Carlos cultivates in the faculty.
