Abstract
"Adventists understand the first verse of the Bible, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (NKJV) as "the foundation for all that follows."' Recent debates have swirled around the translation of this verse' leading to diverging interpretations.3 This study will review and analyze the three major interpretations, all of which hold that the Genesis creation account must be read literally,4 and then provide some considerations for evaluation."
