Ethic which is used in terms of suitability to fundamental ethic values of human behavior confronts us as a multi discipline concept attaching various meanings in a very large area such as science, technology, education, health, environment, law, administration and politics. Although scientists have difficulty to develop a common description to ethical concept, it is observed that ideas surfacing on this matter gather around “principles, values and standards system explaining and defining how individuals behave correctly”. Health is leading among areas where human behaviors have to be “righteous” depending on certain values, principles and standards. Concept which we could generalized as health ethic focuses on the matter of what a health professional should and should not do when doing a research in a related area or practicing their profession and how to solve a problem encountered in a certain situation. Developments experienced in health sector lead to facing some ethic dilemma during service rendering by health professional, and as a result ethic problems may surface. In this paper, in order to offer a remedy to ethic dilemma and ethic problems encountered during service rendering by health professionals, information will be given on empirical applications. In this context, primarily information will be presented about ethical and health ethics concepts, and subsequently the effect of health ethics models on ethic dilemma will be addressed and finally significance of empiric ethic studies and ethic consultancy service in the ethical framework of health services will be emphasized.Date

But What IS the 'Right Thing'?: Ethics and Information Systems in the Corporate DomainSmith, H. Jeff (AIS Electronic Library (AISeL), 2008-02-08)Information systems executives, and other executives, are often prodded to "do the right thing" when they face ethical quandaries. But how do they determine what is "right" ethically, especially when the ethical quandaries occur in the corporate domain? Some individuals rely solely on their own emotions, but they often have a hard time convincing rational thinkers to embrace their position. Other individuals rely on traditional philosophical theories, but this approach is seldom optimal in the corporate domain because the traditional philosophical theories do not specifically address the corporate setting. However, two theories do address ethical quandaries in the private sector: stockholder theory and stakeholder theory. This article discusses these two theories. Stockholder theory holds that executives should resolve ethical quandaries by taking actions that maximize the long-term profits to stockholders without violating the law or engaging in fraud or deception. Stakeholder theory claims that executives should resolve ethical quandaries by balancing stakeholder interests without violating the rights of any stakeholder. These theories are explored by first applying them to a specific real-world quandary: Blockbuster Video's reported plans to market its customer lists. Then the theories are applied to several other current quandaries. Finally, the article explores action steps for applying each theory.
