Report on 3 clinical trials involving babies and children in institutional settings 1960/61, 1970 and 1973

Abstract

In May 1991, three vaccine trials that had been undertaken in the 1960s and 1970s were brought to the attention of the Minister for Health. Two of these trials were the subject of published articles in peer review journals and the third was unpublished. These particular trials have become the subject of public ·discussion over the past number of years because some of the children who took part in these trials were resident in Mother and Baby homes and childrens' homes around the country and questions have been raised as to the ethical propriety of these trials .
