AbstractThe Encyclopedia of Bioethics is the first encyclopedia in its field. Its purpose is to synthesize, analyze, and compare the positions taken on the problems of bioethics, in the past as well as in the present, to indicate which issues require further examination, and to point to anticipated developments in the ethics of the life sciences and health care.
The Encyclopedia of Bioethics project was made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. In funding the
project the Endowment matched gifts from non-federal sources
including The Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation, the Raskob
Foundation, The Commonwealth Fund, The Loyola Foundation, Inc.,
and The David J. Greene Foundation, Inc. The views expressed in
this encyclopedia are not necessarily those of the Endowment or of these foundations.
