Abstract
Charles Taylor at the sources of identityFor Charles Taylor, the question of identity cannot be separated from the moral sources and assets that motivate the subject. Modernity has exacerbated the movement of interiorisation of moral sources, already present in the writings of Saint Augustine, while encouraging their diversity and plurality. The tensions and conflicts between moral sources leave their mark on the identity of the contemporary subject and institutions. The culture of authenticity, which has become prevalent in Western society in recent years, has called into question the relation between the subject and authority and institutions – which is not without consequences for theology and pastoral activities.
