La non-utilisation des tracés de cour de récréation. Monographie d’une école maternelle et de ses enseignantes

Abstract

Cet article se consacre, à partir de la monographie d’une école maternelle, à l’étude du non-usage de tracés de cour de récréation établis pour lutter contre la sédentarité des élèves. Il s’agit de comprendre les motifs sous-jacents à la non-utilisation de ces tracés de la part des enseignantes et d’identifier les raisons de la mise en place d’un tel dispositif dans cette école. L’analyse des pratiques professionnelles, des discours des enseignantes et de la directrice, révèle les mécanismes d’adoption et/ou de rejet d’une innovation reposant à la fois sur les avantages visibles, la complexité du dispositif et la compatibilité de ce dernier avec les compétences des enseignantes, les comportements et les valeurs liés à son usage. L’étude du « non-usage » des tracés fait émerger le poids des routines et des contraintes professionnelles. L’instauration du dispositif relève alors plus d’une opportunité permettant à la directrice de répondre à ses valeurs et aux contraintes professionnelles qui lui incombent en termes de fonctionnement et de climat scolaire tout en assurant, un tant soit peu, une reconnaissance, une protection professionnelle dans le futur.

This paper focuses, through the monographic study of a kindergarten, on the way the markings drawn up in the schoolyard in order to promote pupil activity and discourage sedentarity are subject to non-use. The issue is to understand the underlying motives to this lack of use on the part of the teachers and to identify the reasons such markings were instituted in the first place. The analysis of professional practices and of the discourses of the teachers and head-teacher, reveal the mechanisms behind adoption and/or rejection of an innovation based on the following factors: its advantages of visibility, the complexity of the scheme, and its compatibility with the teachers’ competencies, behaviours, and the values linked to its use. The study of the “non-use” of the markings highlights the weight of routine and of the constraints of the profession. Putting in place the scheme thus enabled the head-teacher to respond to her values and to the constraints that weigh on her professionally in terms of running the school and maintaining morale, while ensuring, at last minimally, her recognition and professional protection in the future.
