Abstract
J.M. Coetzee‘s The Lives of Animals exposes different philosophical questions on Animals and Ethics. This essay tries to disclose the different ideas Elizabeth Costello displays throughout the novella, the influence of Peter Singer and Tom Regan’s philosophies on her, her rejection of Cartesian rationalism, and her attack on the animal industry and the monsters Capitalism has created. Furthermore, it also claims that Costello’s ideas might be almost identical to Coetzee’s. The last point of this work is the representation of Costello as the helpless nonhuman animal that is part of the system yet it does not belong to it.
The Lives of Animals de J.M.
The Lives of Animals de J.M.
