Abstract
Part of the research led by Nicole Diederich, a sociologist, deceased in 2010, and of the studies carried out with Danielle Moyse, a philosopher, was dedicated to the selection of births based on health criteria. Sterilizing the mentally disabled being absolutely forbidden in France until 2001, it was thus done secretly. Only the testimonies of women who had been victims of it enabled Nicole Diederich to discover and denounce this. Likewise, for three years, when confronted to the reactions of people with disabilities regarding prenatal anomalies’ detection, Nicole Diederich and Danielle Moyse gathered the analyses given by people with physical disabilities on that matter. The whole of this research relates to the ethical issues raised by the selection of births as seen from the point of view of people with disabilities.
