AbstractCheating among American medical students and foreign-trained physicians wishing to practice in the United States is briefly discussed. Several major examinations in recent years have been badly compromised because many of those being tested had prior knowledge of the questions from stolen copies of the exams. The entire examination system is under scrutiny and suggestions are being made that the questions on standardized tests should be less easy to memorize. Medical schools are also being criticized for their failure to evaluate their students' progress with regular examinations. (KIE abstract)
