Stakeholder Collaboration in a Sustainable City

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to increase the understanding of collaboration among local government, business, and NGOs in a sustainable city. This includes identification of prominent driving forces and success factors of such collaborative arrangements.<br> Method: Qualitative case study conducted in San Francisco, with a combination of inductive and deductive reasoning. Firstly, a theoretical framework was developed. Secondly, qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted with individuals in San Francisco. The theoretical framework was supplemented with the empirical findings, and an extended<br> framework was thus developed.<br> Theoretical perspectives: Stakeholder collaboration, Stakeholder theory, Sustainable city,Sustainable development.<br> Empirical foundation: Qualitative semi-structured interviews with 23 individuals from the local government of San Francisco, and businesses and NGOs operating in San Francisco.<br> Conclusions: The result of this study is an extended framework based on theory and empirical findings that presents prominent driving forces and success factors of collaboration among local government, business, and NGOs in a sustainable city.
