Musik-, Film- und Hörbuchdownloads - Eine Perspektive für das Dienstleistungsangebot Öffentlicher Bibliotheken?

Abstract

Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit Downloadangeboten durch Öffentliche Bibliotheken. Berücksichtigt werden vor allem Aspekte, die für die Bereitstellung und den Betrieb einer bibliothekseigenen Downloadplattform relevant sind. Einen wichtigen Bestandteil stellt dabei die Darstellung aktueller Entwicklungen in den USA und in Deutschland dar. Berücksichtigt wird bei der Analyse außerdem eine Auswahl an Rahmenbedingungen, die in Bezug auf das Thema eine wichtige Rolle spielen. Die abschließende Identifizierung von Erfolgsfaktoren auf der einen und Problemfeldern auf der anderen Seite sollen darüber hinaus als Entscheidungshilfe für Bibliotheken dienen, die über die Einführung eines solchen Downloadangebotes nachdenken.

This thesis deals with download services provided by public libraries. The focus is on significant aspects for providing and dealing with such a service. An essential part is the presentation of current developments in the USA and Germany. There are also important differences between the situations in these to countries to considerate. Finally the identification of factors, which have an impact on the success of a download service provided by public libraries, should guide libraries through a decision process whether to launch this kind of service or not.
