Abstract
Island gilt generell als ein Land, in dem außergewöhnlich viel gelesen und geschrieben wird, was sich anhand verschiedener statistischer Daten belegen lässt. Für diese große Literaturbegeisterung gibt es eine Reihe von Gründen, die vor allem in der Kultur und Geschichte Islands zu suchen sind. Diese werden in der vorliegenden Arbeit genannt und analysiert. Ergänzt wird dies durch eine Untersuchung der aktuellen Trends in der isländischen Belletristik der Gegenwart sowie einigen Betrachtungen zum Buch- und Bibliothekswesen des Landes. Hierbei steht die Versorgung der Bevölkerung mit Literatur und Informationen im Mittelpunkt. Darüber hinaus werden einige innovative Konzepte der Literaturvermittlung und -förderung vorgestellt.Iceland is generally considered a country whose population has an extraordinary interest in both reading and writing. This can be proven by means of various statistics. There are a lot of different reasons for the Icelanders’ literary enthusiasm, many of which are related to the country’s culture and history. This bachelor thesis names and analyses these reasons. In addition to that, it examines current trends in modern Icelandic fiction and provides an overview of the country’s book market and library system. In this respect, the thesis focuses on how the Icelandic population is provided with literature and information. Furthermore, some innovative concepts concerning the promotion of literature are presented.
