Examination of Story Books Produced Towards Preschool Children Regarding Elements of Violence and Horror Okul Öncesi Çocuklarına Yönelik Yayınlanan Hikâye Kitaplarının Şiddet ve Korku Öğeleri Açısından İncelenmesi

Abstract

Story books are used as an indispensable tool for the education of children. Therefore, the high-quality story books that are prepared taking the age and development characteristics, needs and interests of the children into account gain even more importance. In this study, the violence and horror elements in the text and illustration parts of a total of 174 story books published in Turkey between 1995 and 2005 by 9 publishing houses, 52 of them being translations and 122 written by Turkish authors, are examined through an evaluation form created by researchers. In general, an average of 8 percent of violence and 11 percent of horror elements were found in the texts and illustrations of the story books. These elements were found mostly in translated books and books that are published under the category of world classics. Hikâye kitapları çocukların eğitiminde vazgeçilmez bir araç olarak kullanılmaktadır. Bunun için çocukların yaşları, gelişim özellikleri, ilgi ve ihtiyaçları dikkate alınarak hazırlanmış nitelikli hikâye kitapları büyük önem kazanmaktadır. Bu araştırmada Türkiye’de 1995-2005 yılları arasında 9 yayınevi tarafından basılmış 52’si çeviri, 122’si yerli olmak üzere toplam 174 hikâye kitabının metin ve resim kısımlarında bulunan şiddet ve korku öğeleri araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan bir değerlendirme formu ile incelenmiştir. Genel olarak hikâye kitaplarının metin ve resimlerinde ortalama % 8 şiddet, % 11 korku öğesi olduğu bulunmuştur. Söz konusu öğeler daha çok çeviri ve dünya klasikleri grubundaki kitaplarda tespit edilmiştir.
