Abstract

Thesis on the topic Direct vote President of the Czech Republic in the legislation and in practice, it deals with the first direct vote President of the Czech Republic ever. In the theoretical part is determined the long-time transformation of today's Czech Republic. Followed by characterization of the constitutional position of the President and define its legal powers. The next chapter describes the introduction of direct elections of the President of the Czech Republic. The thesis compares the direct election of the President in the other countries of the European Union. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the process of the presidential elections. It is analyzed the first and the second round of the presidential election. There are defined the legal requirements that must be met for the candidacy. Interviews were conducted with candidates for direct election. There were used approximated options, which used the unsuccessful candidates, who weren´t admitted to the polls. The thesis presents the official surveys, which are compared with the effected elections. The findings are summarized in the conclusion. On the basis of the lessons learned are the proposed changes, which relate to editing of the law. The law should be modified based on the identified knowledge that the current form of the law.
