AbstractMarriage in America fails about fifty percent of the time. Unfortunately, the statistics and the reasons for marital failure and unhappiness are similar for Christians. Part of the problem is that eighty-seven percent of pastors in North America admit that they do not know how to help the couples in their congregations. After discussing the problem and establishing a theological framework, this dissertation addresses the problem by combining clinical research, pastoral experience, and secular literature on marriage, to present a practical guide for pastors, chaplains, and congregational lay leaders who are called to help the couples in their ministry context.
