Abstract
This research tries to verify how the water became the non-canonical saint "Driver Gregório" symbol. The objetive is to understand how the water is present in the imaginary of the devotees and of the midia, as well to understand the capacity of the ex-votos [name given to objects that symbolize the blessing received by believers] to transmit the message. There are different references to understand the process, and Luiz Beltrão, Câmara Cascudo, Roland Barthes and Pierre Bourdieu offer important contributions. Considering the methodology, it was necessary to realize bibliographical and documental research, and semistructured interviews. The results points to the inseparability between thirsty and the non-canonical saint during all the history, as also that the bottle of water as ex-vote is superlative in its comunication.
