Abstract
Treball final de Grau en Psicologia. Codi: PS1048.
This paper presents the Community intervention in “La Llar de San Lorenzo” to empower gypsy women. The overall objective was to reduce the cultural influence of the role of gypsy women in their subjective well-being (happiness). In order to do this, a series of workshops were programmed in order to show the relationship between irrational beliefs and the degree of happiness. The intervention was carried out following the methodology of Participatory Action Research (IAP) and involved six women living in the San Lorenzo’s neighborhood in Castellon de la Plana. Five of six were gypsy women. A pre-intervention and post-intervention measurement were done about the Happiness Perceived and irrational beliefs by filling the sample “Subjective Happiness Scale” by Sonja Lyubomirsky and Heidi Lepper (1999) and the Basic Irrational Beliefs Scale, "I", "The others "and" The World " a personal adaptation of Albert Ellis Irrational Beliefs (1977). Talking about the results obtained by both scales, and as might be expected with such a small sample, no statistically significant differences were found due to the intervention. Nevertheless there was a decrease between pre-intervention (3.83) and post-intervention (2.17) in the irrational belief referred to "other" (people should behave pleasantly. Others must act nicely, attentive and fair). However, the women said they understood that the events of their life do not made them feel more or less happy, but their welfare depended on how they interpreted these events. Additionally they had learned not to use "pink glasses" made them feel happier.
