Extract: In 1915, the Brisbane Courier declared that in order 'to make the growing race worthy of its heritage' it was crucial to ensure 'that the children are learning the same worthy lessons, [and] are kept in an environment where the soul can expand so that the traditions of a great race may be preserved mentally, morally and physically.' (1) This quote encapsulates the way that childhood was seen in Queensland from 1859 to 1918. Export search results
