Abstract
Cultural Memory is a Thematic Net, which expires every three years, co-funded by the European Community, with the aim of renovating the didacticism and the scientific research at academic level in Europe interacting with master and doctoral programs. The project intends to be articulated in five areas of research: a) Cultural Amnesia b) Bearing Witness c) Landscape and places; d) Oral and Written History; e) Foundation texts and mythology. The topic of cultural memory is* central not only for the identity of a nation or community, but also for the identity of every single individual. The memory is an affective, dynamic fact; each one of us is selective when remembering events and happenings, each one makes a choice: eliminates, but at the same time resumes. Remembering is thus a metabolic process of transformation, of metamorphosis and renovation, complex and in continuous development. Memory is then closely related to national identity: the aim of our research is not so much to sacralise it, but more likely to turn a critical look on it, that is to say, to make evident how in the history of the different nations there has always been a direct bond between memory and power. In this sense, we intend to shape this research as a kind of anthropology of memory, because there is in it an effort to valorise the true foundational values of a nation and to operate a critical analysis of the modalities of utilization of the past in the present. A complex operation that inevitably implies and ethic of memory, an indispensable link between memory and justice.
