This book highlights and explains the significance of philosophical, logical, and scientific principles for engineering education/training and engineering works. In so doing, it aims to help to rectify the neglect of philosophy and logic in current education and training programs, which emphasize analytical and numerical methods at the expense of the innovative practical and creative abilities so important for engineering in the past. Individual chapters examine the relation of philosophy, logic, and science to engineering, drawing attention to, for example, the significance of ethics, the relevance of the philosophy of science, and the increasing importance of application of fuzzy logic to engineering. Modeling principles and philosophy in engineering are discussed, and the impact of different education systems, examined. Too often engineers have become reliant on readily available formulations and software; this book offers an antidote, promoting the recognition of artistic and humanitarian aspects and their integration in engineering works.Introduction -- Intelligent Reasoning Elements -- Philosophy and Engineering -- Logic and Engineering -- Science and Engineering -- Education and Engineering -- Future Trends.

Use of rai and wavelet of analysis of the influence of the temporal multi-scales in the rainfall of the Mundaú River watershedFrancisco de Assis Salviano de Sousa; Djane Fonseca da Silva; Mary Toshie Kayano (Environmental Engineering Course / UNIPINHAL, 2009-03-01)The variations of the rainfall in a region of the Mundaú river watershed, at state of Alagoas, Brazil, had been studied using the rainfall anomaly index (RAI) and the Wavelet Analysis. This method involves transformation of a one-dimensional series in a time space and frequency, allowing determining the dominant scales of variability and its secular variations. The results had shown that the precipitation variability in the two regions is defined by located secular multi-scales in certain intervals of time. However, on inter-annual variability to the ENSO cycle and the decadal variability of the scales had influenced in the local pluviometric variability.

Assessment beach morphodynamic in the city of Cabo De Santo Agostinho, State Of Pernambuco, through suborbital and orbital images space of high resolutionHenrique Ravi Rocha de Carvalho Almeida; Carlos Alberto Borba Schuler (Environmental Engineering Course / UNIPINHAL, 2009-03-01)In Pernambuco, the beach morphodynamic state throughout 187 km of extension, it is characterized for great dynamic of sediments, resulting in erosion processes in practically all coastal. Having as experimental area the littoral band of the City of Cabo de Santo Agostinho, located in State de Pernambuco, the present work, it searched to evaluate the trend morphodynamic beach in secular scale, using ortophotomap B and W of the years of 1975 and 1988 and multispectral images of the Quickbird satellite of the year of 2005. From the vectoring of the shoreline in commercial software, that the coastal dynamic they had not been disclosed with the same intensity throughout all the sectors in the observed periods (1975-1988 and 1988-2005), presenting, the sectors 4 and 6 erosive trends at the two moments, whereas in sectors 1 and 2 it took advantage advances of the shoreline. The sectors 3 and 5 had indicated alternations (advances/jibs) of the shoreline. The results demonstrate the degree of vulnerability of the worked regions, being of great importance for the determination of the evolution trends in the coast of the City of Cabo of Santo Agostinho, supplying subsidies for environmental planning and management

Kolb, Vigotski and Piaget´s pomit of vie will be analised pedagogically and based on them, a learning object model will be proposed for deep learning and competence development. From the computing point of view, some suggestions will be presented for the production of learning objects.
