AbstractOnce the Cultural Studies made its presence felt, the concept of culture was broadened so as to include the so-called “pop-culture”. It was very profitable to humanize culture and make it available to all, not only to elites. Extremes are discouraging. A middle ground should be established between the ups and downs. Culture should be democratic, which doesn’t mean it has to be confused with civilization. This book opens up only a few possible study directions instantiated by various examples taken from out modern times. Important it is to understand that Geert Hofstede’s cultural dimensions or Fons Trompenaars’s cultural categories are approximations, not axioms. Again, important is to understand the limitations imposed by essentialism, ethnocentricity, and nationalism. Of course, this doesn’t mean we have to dissolve our identities and become amorphous and brain-washed pseudo-beings. The point is to respect all species on the planet and strive to improve our human condition by being aware of Otherness.
