By thinking of Information and Communication Technologies and multimedia languages as flexible tools for breaking accessibility barriers of learning in educational contexts, the research investigates what design and solutions are possible for responding to and valuing individual learning differences, with a special focus on the opportunities offered by the ebook and through a universal approach to design. Within the Italian context, the existing literature on the topic is limitedly oriented on design and the industry of digital publishing is still far from effectively integrating multimedia facilities within the digital contents. Therefore, through the design of accessible multimedia didactic pathways, the research reflects on the principles and approach developed by several disciplines in the field of multimedia learning and inclusive design. An experimental part is then introduced with the purpose of identifying information needs and perceptions of primary and secondary users of digital textbooks (target group), through mixed methods research. Following the data collection and based on the merging results, a low-fidelity prototype is presented with the aim of promoting the application of effective and accessible solutions for the design of digital learning material that directly involves the subjects and can have a positive impact on potential users.Date
