Objectives

The two main objectives of this study are to explore how the chosen accelerator program supports experiential and peer learning in the teaching and how these aspects are valued by the participating startups.

 Summary

Qualitative interviews were conducted to gain a deeper understanding of the learning experiences of four startups in a Finnish startup accelerator. The results indicate that practicing the company pitch is one of the key practical exercises supporting experiential learning in the accelerator. Instructors and mentors have a significant role in the experiential learning process since the participants are relying on their knowledge and feedback while postponing their own strategy implementation. Alumni support was regarded as valuable and beneficial due to the practical nature of their advice. Peer learning was encouraged through for instance pitch practicing and networking opportunities that enabled participants to share insights with one another.

 Conclusions

The experiential and peer learning methods were considered supportive to the learning experience and thus found valuable by the accelerator participantsDate
