Social ethics is distinct from social politics or socialism which, since the end of the 18th century is a political answer to the social question and a counter model to the economic mode of capitalism. Social and economical ethics and philosophy are the meta domain of varieties of applied ethics, considered as professional good praxis.
Social ethics may as well include domains, such as sports ethics, sexual ethics, philosophy of race, but also "religious" social ethics, e.g. the social doctrines or teachings of religious communities on social justice, socio-economic problems, social work, social relations, and the role of religion in politics, economics, society, the arts and sciences.

  • The mística : beetween social mobilization and ritual-theater

Laboratoire d'anthropologie sociale (LAS) ; École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS)-Collège de France (CdF (institution))-Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS); Université Paris sciences et lettres; Michael Houseman; Beniza, Ghali (HAL CCSD, 2018-06-15)
This thesis describes and analyses the ritualized, kinesic and enunciative performance called mística, based its forms observed in the region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. What is the mística? This question, which the present work attempts to answer by means of a detailed ethnography of this performance, deserves to be raised, for its form is not stable but is largely determined by the context in which it takes place. The carrying out of a mística opens a utopian, political space constituted by gestures, words, bodies and objects, so as to give rise to more or less enduring collectives. One of the specificities of this performance is that it is implemented by movements whose religious and political dimensions are intertwined. The object of this thesis is two-fold: provide an unprecedented documentation of this practice, on the one hand, and identify that which its performance enacts. Indeed, although this practice presents itself as linked to Catholicism, its performance enacts modes of thought and action that belong to Amerindian cultures. This assessment allows for hypotheses based on the heterogeneous implantation of Catholicism in this part of the world.
  • The role of mosque committee in empowering mosque’s educational programmes: case study of mosques in Gombak district, Malaysia (peranan ahli jawatankuasa masjid dalam penambahbaikan program pendidikan masjid: kajian kes bagi masjid-masjid di daerah Gombak)

al-Akiti, Muhammad Ayman; Ahmad, Che Mahzan; Mamat, Ismail; Elias@Mayah, Aliza; Mohd Sobri, Mohd Helmi; Borhan, Lihanna; Abdul Jalil, Mohd Noh; Samsudin, Sofiah; Alias, Majdan; Abdul Rahman, Shukran (International Islamic University Malaysia, 2021-12)
This article analyses the roles of the mosque committee in enhancing the mosque’s educational programmes in Gombak, Selangor. Gombak as an administrative district that is located inside the hectic and modernized area of Klang Valley is prone to foreign ideologies and socio-cultural issues. This study aims to broaden the understanding of how the mosque committee in Gombak could empower the mosque’s educational programmes in addressing these issues. This study also aims to discover creative improvision that the committee could make in making the mosque’s educational programmes attractive to the surrounding community. This study focuses on the role of the mosque committee in improving their mosque’s educational programmes with a specific case study on selected mosques in the Gombak district. It is a qualitative study that utilizes the deductive and inductive methods derived from surveys collected from Focus-group Discussion (FGD) and literature studies. Recordings from the FGD survey and recent literature studies related to this topic are examined and analysed according to its appropriation. The result indicates the importance of the mosque committee and their significant roles in enhancing the mosque’s educational programmes such as adjusting the curriculum to cater the diversity of people and continuously improvising the lesson through feedback taken from the surrounding community.

Gustavsson, Hannah; Tjernberg, Karolina (Lunds universitet/Socialhögskolan, 2019)
Deacons within the Church of Sweden are in modern days representants from the Christian practise but also a significant partner to face existential needs within the Swedish welfare system. The aim of this thesis was therefore to analyze how deacons within The Church of Sweden view and resonate about their role in meeting possibilities and difficulties when facing existential needs in their form of social work. The study was done with a qualitative method in which semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven deacons and one deacon assistant. To analyze the material, Anthony Giddens theory about modernity was applied to illustrate how the structure of society have impact on the modern human. The main conclusion from this study indicates a parallel view on how the deacons perceive both opportunities and difficulties when facing existential needs. In one way the deacons highlight their possibilities to create more personal relations to people due to the flexibility deaconal work is based on, unlike professionals within the public welfare. The deacons also believed that their own beliefs were important to convey trust in today's society. But at the same time the deacons experienced difficulties to show their availability for a bigger group of people and professionals.
  • Palingenetic Ultra-Nationalist Christianity: History, Identity, and the Falsity of Peripeteic Dialectics

Byrd, Dustin J. (Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, 2021-12-15)
The recent upsurge of European nationalism is partially an attempt to address the ongoing identity crisis that began with the Bourgeois revolution, which expressed itself through positivistic scientism and aggressive secularization, and culminated in the post-World War II “liberal consensus”: representative democracy and free-market capitalism as the “end of history.” Due to the needs of capitalism after World War II, coupled with the liberalization and Americanization of European societies, there has been a growing presence of “non-identical” elements within Europe, which itself is reexamining the very geography of what it means to be European. In this essay, I explore the historical context of the current identity struggles that are facing Europeans. From a Critical Theory perspective, I challenge the idea that Christianity or a Christian age can be resurrected by ultra-nationalists in their attempt to combat the cosmopolitanism of Western modernity. Moreover, I demonstrate how such attempts to return to an idealized Christian identity are rooted in a false possibility: Peripeteic Dialectics, or “dialectics in reverse.”
  • Socijalni pastoral s mladima. Primjer udruge Prijatelji sv. Martina

    Jakobfi, Igor (2021)

  • A pastoral exploration of possible barriers to disclosure of HIV status amongst members of Shining Light Ministries, Tierpoort

    Baloyi, Elijah; Sawa, Johannah (2021-09-17)
The dissertation concerns itself with the task of exploring barriers to disclosure of HIV and AIDS status amongst Christians with reference to Shining Light Ministries at Tierpoort. It was motivated from the challenges that some of our members are facing after I encouraged them to do HCT (HIV Counselling and testing). Because I discovered that people discover very late that they are infected with HIV. Secondly, I will address the barriers by suggesting and recommending how the church and its pastoral care ministries can empower congregants on how and why they should disclose their HIV and AIDS status.

  • Resolving the Anders Dilemmas: How & Why Texas Should Abandon the Anders Procedure

Ritter, Michael J. (Digital Commons at St. Mary's University, 2022-01-04)
When an indigent defendant has a right to counsel for an appeal, and counsel believes the appeal is wholly frivolous, Texas has adopted the Anders v. California procedure that permits counsel to withdraw from representation and argue to the appellate court why their client’s appeal is wholly frivolous. This Article argues that, either by a change to the disciplinary rules or by judicial decision, Texas should abandon the Anders procedure as other states have. Doing so will promote the integrity of the right to counsel, avoid numerous conflicts and dilemmas created by the Anders procedure, and advance judicial efficiency and public confidence in Texas’s criminal justice system.
  • The origin and spread of Christianity in Malabar (Kerala) : scenario prior to the european advent (1498 AD)

  • Feelings of injustice and conspiracy theory. Representations of adolescents from an African migrant background (Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa) in disadvantaged neighbourhoods of Brussels

Mazzocchetti, Jacinthe (Université Saint-Louis BruxellesBrussels Studies, 2016-11-10)
Following a field survey in neighbourhoods and schools in the poor area of Brussels among adolescents from an African migrant background (Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa), this article examines young people’s attempts to rationalise the discrimination and injustice they experience. As well as their direct effects in terms of social success in particular, institutional discrimination and violence have repercussions on representations of oneself and of the world. The accumulation of experiences of discrimination and xenophobia – in particular when carried out by institutions – is interpreted by certain adolescents as being a conspiracy resulting in a reinforcement of “them/us” stratifications and logics of mistrust.
