Abstract
The exhibition for this art festival presented a collection of photographs from the artist-in-residency Photo & Archive Project in Miyoshi City. The project focused on local people, and was based on the theme of cultural heritage which people of Miyoshi City wish to keep and preserve, and wish to hand down to future generations. This is an Art Festival showing selections of work by twelve artists, both Japanese and international. The festival is organised by the communities of ‘Machi’ and ‘Sora’ in Miyoshi City. The aim of the festival is to explore ways of empowering the local communities through art practices, such as exhibitions, workshops and performance events. The Photo & Archive Project is a participatory art-photography collaboration with Ikuko Tsuchiya (myself) and a group of people who live in Miyoshi city. My role in the project was to explore and develop ideas in the realm of a participatory art-photography project, responding to a disappearing local cultural heritage.
