The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the United Nations (UN) and adopted by all UN Member States in 2015 provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future, to address global challenges, including poverty, better well-being and inequality. There are 17 goals with a number of targets to achieve a better and sustainable future. The Division for Sustainable Development Goals in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs provides substantive support and capacity-building for the SDGs and their related thematic issues, including water, energy, climate, oceans, urbanisation, transport, science and technology. To achieve the SDGs locally and globally, governments have responsibilities to revisit and change their strategies and policies. With the adjustment of policy to achieve better life for all, citizens in various demographic statuses can share equitable rights. This chapter will discuss how the SDGs influence the policies in different countries. The effectiveness and implications of SDGs in developing and developed countries will be reviewed in terms of global impacts.en_US
