Abstract
The revolving-door metaphor evokes a phenomenon which apparently remains known inadequately. As a result, significant differences appear between the various conceptions and opinions of it. After a short review of the phenomenon in historical and social contexts, this paper aims at examining its features and conditions, particularly in relation to lobbying. Then, the opinions and judgments are shown somewhat diverse, in particular about the acceptability of such activities in the conduct of public affairs, more specifically as regards ethical values and transparency in our times. Thus, it becomes possible to throw light on the reality and the motivations behind the transfers from the public to the private sector, and vice versa, and to emancipate political analyses from the yoke of moral approaches.
