Abstract
Declining trust in political institutions is not a temporary or local phenomenon. Politicians lie, and lies are one of the bases of political culture in democratic countries. Journalists in turn participate in the game of lies. If this culture exists and thrives, it is because citizens rarely have the courage to face the truth, a truth that is often complex, subtle and painful. And yet citizens have the right to truth, and a politics of truth is crucial for our democracies to regain their original vitality. But do citizens really want this ?
