    • 1. IJRBM ENTREPRENEURIAL DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA A TEXTUAL ANALYSIS OFTHE IGBO ETHIC AND THE SPIRIT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP

      @impact (2019-11-30)
      The entrepreneurial feat ascribed to the Igbo ethnic group of Nigeria instigated this study, which aimed at finding a possible relationship between people’s ethic and their economic activity, as reflected in the works of Weber (1930). This study deployed the use of the narrative-textual case study (NTCS) method to study the development of entrepreneurship in Nigeria, including an attempt at isolating the Igbo ethnic group in Nigeria so as to document what propelled them to dominate the Nigerian informal sector entrepreneurship. An analysis of the special characteristics that are associated with this group, using the model of analysis similar to the works of Weber (1930), in his essay, “the Protestant ethic and the spirit of Capitalism” was carried out. The paper supported the association between the popular myths surrounding the origin of the Igbo ethnic group of Nigeria and the spirit of entrepreneurship. This study inferred that there is an “Igbo ethic” (Igbo rationalistic orientation) which stimulated their approach to economic activity of accumulation, investment, re-investment, expansion and rational calculative choice.

      Desde que iniciase su andadura como profesión en España, ha quedado constancia del compromiso ético de las y los profesionales del Trabajo Social en las respuestas que han venido ofreciendo en cada época a los conflictos y dilemas éticos que se originaban en el ejercicio profesional. Ante la ausencia de estudios de similares características a nivel nacional, el objetivo del presente artículo consiste en explicar nuestra propuesta de periodización de la evolución del compromiso ético de las y los profesionales del Trabajo Social en España a partir del estudio de los valores éticos que han sido destacados por las y los mismos desde 1861 hasta la actualidad. Para ello, explicaremos los diferentes períodos en los que hemos estructurado la evolución de la Ética del Trabajo Social en España, identificando algunos elementos del estoicismo.
    • 150 years of history of Social Work ethics in Spain: periodization of its ethical values

      Francisco Idareta Goldaracena; María Jesús Úriz Pemán; Juan Jesús Viscarret Garro (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, 2017-01-01)
      Since its beginnings as a profession in Spain, the ethical commitment of social work professionals has been seen in the responses they have offered during each era to the ethical conflicts and dilemmas that have occurred in their professional practice. Faced with the absence of similar studies at national level, the objective of this article is to explain our periodization proposal with regard to the evolution of the ethical commitment of social work professionals in Spain based on a study of the ethical values that they have themselves emphasised from 1861 to the present day. In order to do so, we explain the different periods in which we have structured the evolution of social work ethics in Spain, identifying certain elements of Stoicism.

    • "a Spreading And Abiding Hope": A. J. Conyers And Evangelical Theopolitical Imagination

      Long, Stephen, Ogbonnaya, Joseph, Duffey, Michael; Shatzer, Jacob (e-Publications@Marquette, 2014-01-01)
      In this work I argue that A. J. Conyers provides a promising example for countering various weaknesses in evangelical theopolitical imagination. I make this argument in two ways. First, I provide a critical reading of Conyers's overall scholarly project, seeking to understand it in its own context and in conversation with other scholars. In particular, I draw on the influence of Jürgen Moltmann, Johannes Althusius, Eric Voegelin, the Southern Agrarians, and Richard Weaver on Conyers's thought. I then focus on Conyers's political theology, exploring how he diagnoses the modern world and what he proposes for remedies. I explore Conyers's political theology with an eye to these influences as well as to the contribution that his work makes to current scholarship. Second, I provide a reading of Conyers's political theology while bringing it into conversation with prominent political theologian William Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh serves as a leading representative of contemporary political theology, and he provides a position that many people find compelling. His work also proves useful in understanding Conyers, because the two read modernity in overlapping and mutually reinforcing ways, with a few important differences. Identifying these differences situates Conyers as a helpful political theologian and also contributes to some current debates in political theology. In my conclusion, I utilize the insights from Conyers to begin building an evangelical political theology that points the way forward for overcoming typical weaknesses in evangelical theopolitical imagination.
