Abstract
In this manuscript, I compare and contrast some basic tenets of Freire's pedagogy with the theoretical framework of multicultural education. Both paradigms are centered around a transformative agenda of education and may act to enrich each other. There exist two central ideas that support the comparison. First, the practice of multicultural education will gain in efficacy by incorporating some Freirian concepts, particularly those related to social inequality and alternative pedagogy. Second, the issue of ethnic relations discussed by multicultural education is one angle lacking in Freire's work. It is believed that hybridization between these two educational theories would enhance the search for structural educational reforms.Incl. abstract and bibl.
