Abstract

The author first gives a grim overview of the state of cultural research in the Mexican context then outlines the core of his program of analysis on cultural fronts beginning essentially with city fairs, religiosity in sanctuaries, and melodrama. He justifies the idea of cultural fronts while pointing out the originality of such a project, which is to transform the conditions of scientific production by stimulating horizontal networks. He ends by presenting a new project based on the analysis of eight cultural fields and emphasizing the challenge of this alternate model of knowledge production for Mexico and, more broadly, for Latin America.

L'A. dresse un sévère bilan de l'état des recherches sur la culture dans le contexte mexicain. Il expose ensuite la genèse de son programme d'analyse sur les fronts culturels qui a essentiellement porté dans un premier temps sur les foires urbaines, la religiosité dans les sanctuaires et le mélodrame. Il justifie la notion de fronts culturels tout en relevant l'originalité d'un tel projet : celle de transformer les conditions de production scientifique par la stimulation de réseaux horizontaux. Il présente enfin un nouveau projet basé sur l'analyse de huit champs culturels avant de souligner les enjeux, pour le Mexique et plus largement l'Amérique latine, de ce modèle alternatif de production culturelle
