April, 1971 TO LEAD PROVIDENCE BOARD IN 1971 W IL L IA M D O B L E R E L W IN M E S S E R R A L P H W Y T H E S Vice President President Secretary ANNUAL PROVIDENCE BOARD MEETING Members of the Providence Hospital Board, Executive C om mittee of the Medical Staff, wives, and special guests attended the annual board dinner at the Cascade Club on March 15. Mr. Elwin Messer, Western Gear Corporation vice president, was elected president to succeed William Caswell w ho served in that capacity for four years. Mr. Messer was vice president during 1970. William W. Dobler of Chaffee's Apparel for Women, was elected vice president, and Ralph J. Wythes of Scott Paper Com pany board secretary. Mr. Henry Dahl presided over the meeting in the absence of Mr. Caswell. Mr. Dahl announced the appointm ent of one new board member, The Reverend John P. Hoogstrate, pastor of Westminster Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Everett. Pastor Hoogstrate was unable to attend. Invocation was delivered by M onsignor John Mattie, pastor of Immaculate Conception Church. James McLellan, hospital administrative assistant, was master of ceremonies. Senator W illiam A. Gissberg, member of the board, spoke to the guests on present legislation affecting hospitals. O f special significance was the presence of Mother Cecile Fournier, superior general and Sister Alice Hurtubise, assistant general, here from their headquarters in Montreal. A lso present were members of the Provincial Council in Issaquah, Washington: Sister Barbara Ellen, provincial superior; Sister Elizabeth Campbell, assistant superior; Sister Rita Bergamini, provincial secretary; Sister Ernestine Marie, provincial treasurer; Sister Dona Taylor, director of Health & Social Services and Sister Lauretta Frawley, director of education. Other board members present were George P. Duecy, Earl J. Thierer and J. William Tobin. Members of the Executive C om mittee of the Medical Staff included Drs. J. E. Flynn, M. F. Ostolaza, B. A. Spencer and J. W. Tom linson. Other guests were: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Botesch, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Nash; Mr. and Mrs. John P. Greeley, Mrs. J. W. HOOGSTRATE M INISTER NAM ED TO PROVIDENCE BOARD A new addition to the Providence Board is the Reverend John P. Hoog-strate, pastor o f Westminster Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Everett. Born in New Jersey, Pastor Hoogstrate studied at b oth the University o f Pennsylvania and Michigan State University, and received his Bachelor o f Arts degree from Rutgers University in New Jersey, after an interruption o f three years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He served in the China-Burma-India theater o f war. With his Bachelor o f Divinity degree from the Faith Theological Sem inary, Pastor H oogstrate was ordained to the m inistry in June o f 1951. He served pastorates in N orth D akota, K entucky, Nebraska and Illinois before moving to W ashington in 1968 w ith his wife Shirley and two daughters. Barbara is seventeen and R uth eleven.
