This undated, handwritten note on a torn fragment of paper shows Olivia Sage's strong sense of duty and religious seriousness rooted in her affiliation with the Dutch Reformed Church. Devotion to a strict Protestantism was a theme throughout her life, and is hinted at here. She taught Sunday school as a newly married woman in the 1870s (one of her pupils was Helen Gould), regularly attended Sunday service, and advocated strict Sabbath observance. The note probably dates from the 1880s or 1890s.Date
