Does the learning infrastructure in the Mexican Public Higher Learning Institutions meet the new requirements for the XXIst century?

Abstract

All new advances in technology have led us to change most of our society activities, in education it is clear the use of information technology (IT) and the changes this has caused. Because of this, we wonder if the educational infrastructure provides learning environments that are suitable for carrying out the processes of teaching and learning that our twenty-first century society demands. The aim of this paper is to share the concern about the need to pay more attention to the characteristics of the educational infrastructure of Mexican Higher Education in public institutions, specifically those that affect Mexican architects and urban planners training. After an initial literature review this article presents the trends that will guide a future research, trends in the disciplinary area and the social-educative area. We presented some of the studies and researches found on the subject, mainly on teachers, teaching and learning methods, as well as institutional assessment used in the educational process in the training of architects and urban planners. Afterwards, we mention some of the research on educational infrastructure found identifying three dimensions: bibliohemerográphic, physic and technologic, these will help us build the state of knowledge of the future research we mentioned before.

Los grandes avances de la tecnología han provocado evidentes cambios en la mayor parte de las actividades de la sociedad; en el ámbito educativo es evidente la incorporación de tecnología de información y comunicación (TIC) y los cambios que esto ha provocado. Ante esta situación, surge la pregunta: ¿la infraestructura educativa proporciona ambientes de aprendizaje convenientes para que se lleven a cabo los procesos de enseñanza y de aprendizaje que la sociedad del siglo XXI demanda? El objetivo de este artículo es compartir la inquietud sobre la necesidad de poner mayor atención a las características de la infraestructura educativa de las instituciones de educación superior (IES) públicas mexicanas, específicamente de aquellas que inciden en la formación de arquitectos y urbanistas mexicanos. A partir de un rastreo de fuentes y una primera revisión de literatura, se presentan las tendencias que guiarán una investigación más amplia en dos grandes áreas: la disciplinar y la socioeducativa. Se mencionan algunos de los estudios y líneas de investigación encontrados sobre el tema, principalmente con respecto a los docentes, los métodos de enseñanza y de aprendizaje, así como la evaluación institucional, elementos implicados en el proceso educativo en la formación de arquitectos y urbanistas. De igual manera, se muestran algunas de las investigaciones identificadas sobre infraestructura educativa, en la que se identifican estudios en tres dimensiones: la bibliohemerográfica, la física y la tecnológica, lo que ayudará a construir el estado de conocimiento de la investigación.
