Abstract
This paper presents an educational proposal to develop digital competences in adolescents, and a series of recommendations resulting from an ethnographic and phenomenological case study, whose original purpose was to understand and analyze the influence of information and communication technologies (ICT´s) on the family dynamics of middle school adolescents. Through both, a traditional and a virtual ethnography, this case study revealed the urgency to raise awareness of the need to educate youngsters in the responsible and constructive use of ICT´s. In order to construct these competences, the development of four basic skills is considered a key aspect. These are visual literacy, critical thinking, ethical judgment and inquiry based learning.
