AbstractDr. Burke begins this chapter on his strategies for building the MD Anderson Cancer Network with a discussion of the major challenges that this initiative must face. He talks about the importance of “profiling” the patient populations at each partner institution in order to select the right clinical trials for their involvement and gives an example. He discusses the financial projections for the Network’s operation (in the 60 – 80 million range) and how that revenue will be used. Dr. Burke explains his philosophy and goals. By bringing all partner institutions under a single umbrella, the Network can to touch as large a percentage of the United States population as possible.
