The legacy in the art of builing ( in the form of design, construction and economical use of local materials in building) by the Basel Missionaries has not been developed as it was with religion, education, health, family and almost all aspects of culture.The indigenous people do not give much consideration of the building legacy of the missionaries when building themselves.But it is a fact that most of the good old buildings in Eastern and parts of the Ashanti Region of Ghana where the Basel Missionaries had their stronghold, are those of the mission and those which were influenced by the mission.

The purpose of this study is to examine the Basel Missionary buildings in their original form before they disappeared with time, leaving no records for future generation to continue where the Basel Missionaries left off.The scope of the study is restricteed to Abetifi where the missionaries took great pains to build in a more complex way.
