Abstract
The requirements of a computer-aided circulation system are described. The characteristics of off-line systems are reviewed in the light of these requirements. On-line systems are then reviewed and their economic viability queried. A "hybrid" system (involving a dedicated mini-computer in the library, used in conjunction with a larger machine), appears to be more cost-effective than conventional on-line working.Date
