Abstract
This thesis identifies those human factors which impact on a commander's decision in a tactical combat environment. Various models for categorization are discussed. The study argues that in order to establish clear causal/effect relationships between human factors and battle outcome, concentration of analytical research must focus on first order effects. Two categorical judgment surveys in the form of questionnaires are developed. Results from the surveys are transformed to interval scales. The first survey is exploratory in nature and allows respondents to apply 27 endogenous factors within a generic tactical context. The second survey presents four specific tactical scenarios in which the top seven factors identified in the first survey can be applied. Respondent selection for the first survey represented the four military services while respondent selection for the second survey was limited to Army officers. The study concludes that the top seven factors are: Leadership, Training/Experience, Initiative, Discipline, Cohesion, Morale, and Will/Motivation. The rank order and scaled magnitudes of these factors are found to be scenario dependent.

Contribuciones del factor general y de los factores específicos en la relación entre inteligencia y rendimiento escolar Contributions of the general and the specific factors for the intelligence and school achievement relationship

This paper aims to analyse the extent to which factors more specific cognition, content associated with verbal, numerical or figurative, complement a reasoning general factor in predicting students´ academic achievement at the beginning and the end of adolescence. Taking a Portuguese students sample (n=4,899) from 5th to 12th grades, the reasoning tests battery (BPR – Bateria de Provas de Raciocínio) was administrated in its three versions. Academic achievement was estimated on base of students´ classifications at Portuguese Language and Mathematics. The structural equation modelling shows a more expressive impact of general factor (inductive and fluid factor) associated to all BPR tests in academic achievement prediction, even tough its importance decreases progressively when we advance on school grades. At same time, specific components in each test are present in a second model namely for the 5th and 6th grades. From 9th to 12th grades the specific contributes of tests are confined to the verbal reasoning test (numerical reasoning test appears in 9th grade too). So we can conclude for the importance of g factor to explain the academic performance, but specific cognitive components can also contribute to reinforce the relation between intelligence and school achievement.

Key words: Intelligence, G factor, specific factors, Gf-Gc, academic achievement

Functional variability as efficiency factor in handball throwing to the goal VARIABILIDAD FUNCIONAL COMO FACTOR DE EFICIENCIA EN LOS LANZAMIENTOS A PORTERÍA EN BALONMANO [Functional variability as efficiency factor in handball throwing to the goal]

Marcos Gutiérrez-Dávila; Javier Rojas; Manuel Ortega-Becerra; Juan Párraga; José Campos (Federación Extremeña de Balonmano; University of Extremadura, 2012-06-01)
The purpose of this study was to compare and to gauge players’ intra-individual variability in the movement pattern of four throwing directions, which are the corners of the goal, in the presence of the goalkeeper in handball. Twelve right handed players from the Spanish first division participated as subjects of whom five were experienced field players and seven were experienced goalkeepers. The throws were filmed by two video cameras synchronized temporally at 500 Hz, allowing us to obtain the spatial coordinates of a model composed of five markers body are the geometric center of the ball. We used a statistical model based on cluster analysis, and a factorial ANOVA of the temporal data recorded to analyze the differences among the throws. The results show that specialist distance throwers achieve greater variability in their movement pattern, regardless of the changes in the different throwing directions. Non-specialist throwers offer more and earlier direction indicators, before the release of the ball, to goalkeepers than distance throwers. The wrist and the ball were the most sensitive direction indicators of the throws. The transverse axis (y) offered greater amplitude of movement in this axis when the throw is made to the left side of the thrower.
Keys words: Kinematics, Handball, cluster analysis, kinetic chains

Factores psicosociales asociados a la evaluación del docente1 Factores psicossociais associados á avaliagao do docente The Psycho-social Factors Associated with Teacher Assessment

Through interview on classification without cards that contain the ñames of the teachers being assessed, the study shows the psycho-social factors or conceptualizations students employ when evaluating their teachers. In the end, doubts are expressed about the objectivity and validity of teacher evaluations based on structured questionnaires.
