    • You Are not Alone : Culture and Civilization

Nicolau, Felix (Conspress Publishing House, 2018-01-26)
Once the Cultural Studies made its presence felt, the concept of culture was broadened so as to include the so-called “pop-culture”. It was very profitable to humanize culture and make it available to all, not only to elites. Extremes are discouraging. A middle ground should be established between the ups and downs. Culture should be democratic, which doesn’t mean it has to be confused with civilization. This book opens up only a few possible study directions instantiated by various examples taken from out modern times. Important it is to understand that Geert Hofstede’s cultural dimensions or Fons Trompenaars’s cultural categories are approximations, not axioms. Again, important is to understand the limitations imposed by essentialism, ethnocentricity, and nationalism. Of course, this doesn’t mean we have to dissolve our identities and become amorphous and brain-washed pseudo-beings. The point is to respect all species on the planet and strive to improve our human condition by being aware of Otherness.
    • "You child is just wonderful”: On ethics and access in research with children

Eldén, Sara (Universitetet i Nordland, 2013)
This article discuss the consequences of the ambiguous view of children in the ethical guidelines – the ambitions to “give voice” while also “protect” – with a point of departure taken in the Swedish context, and in an actual research process of a project on children and care. It shows how the regulation of informed consent through the parent compromises the ideals of child-centred research; firstly, by limiting the child’s possibility to opt in to research; secondly, by affecting the relationship between researcher, child and parent in the research encounter; and thirdly, by jeopardizing the child’s right to confidentiality. The author argues that we should view not only the child’s but also the adult’s consent as a “continuous negotiation” and discusses strategies for strengthening the child’s right to opt in and participate in research on equal terms.

Lisa McCorquodale; Sandra DeLuca (FQS, 2020-05-01)
There is a scarcity of literature written about body mapping as a method to understanding mindfulness practice, and even fewer examples of how to undertake this type of research in a tangible way. In this article, we discuss how body mapping was used as part of a qualitative study investigating working mothers' mindful practices. We present a novel approach to integrating mindfulness-based techniques with SOLOMON's body mapping method. We illustrate our experiences by 1. sharing an overview of body mapping as a method, and 2. reviewing practical issues we encountered including: a) ethical issues, b) how to approach analysis, and c) body mapping within social research. Body mapping can be a fun and expressive experience for participants of social research. It can also be a confusing and overwhelming experience for researchers and participants new to the method. Through the article, we offer some insights and assurances about how to proceed with body mapping projects, including details such as how to generate questions for body mapping sessions, and a thorough consideration of steps to consider for analysis.

    • Young Adults, Intimacy, and Mutuality in Late Modernity: Contemporary Updates to Theological, Psychological, and Marginalized Perspectives on Relationship Ethics

      Walters Young, Laine Christine (2019-09-16)
Intimate, romantic adult relationships today are marked by ever greater struggles in work-life integration and gender equity in an increasingly commodified, fast-paced world. Often in response to these factors, relationships today are more ambiguously defined, informal, and impermanent as people decenter romantic relationships from being their primary concern. Given this, I argue that cultural and religious mores which have traditionally seen marriage as a paradigm for all intimate relationships need to be significantly updated and re-interpreted. Specifically, I suggest that relationships should be evaluated based on the capacity for and presence of intimacy as psycho-relational quality. This will set the groundwork for more creative relational ethic that can speak to a world of impermanence. This project asks: What do scholars and practitioners in religion, and even young adults themselves, need to understand about young adults today to develop an adequate relational ethic that comprehends, and can respond to, the complexity of their needs and lives? First, it is important to know what is actually happening in the intimate lives of young adults and figuring out the questions that young adults are asking of themselves in terms of how postindustrial precarity affects their worldview, psychology, and behavior. This will lead to appreciation of how these factors serve to encourage a program of bolstering people’s psychological resilience and moral creativity through processes of auto-ethnographic reflection and guided praxis of how to connect their lives to ancient religious and ethical ideals of love and justice.

    • YouTube, Google, Facebook: 21st Century Online Video Research and Research Ethics

Nicolas Legewie; Anne Nassauer (FQS, 2018-09-01)
Since the early 2000s, the proliferation of cameras in devices such as mobile phones, closed-circuit television (CCTV), or body cameras has led to a sharp increase in video recordings of human interaction and behavior. Through websites that employ user-generated content (e.g., YouTube) and live streaming sites (e.g., GeoCam), access to such videos virtually is at the fingertips of social science researchers. Online video data offer great potential for social science research to study an array of human interaction and behavior, but they also raise ethical questions to which existing guidelines and publications only provide partial answers. In our article we address this gap, drawing on existing ethical discussions and applying them to the use of online video data. We examine five areas in which online video research raises specific questions or promises unique potentials: informed consent, analytic opportunities, privacy, transparency, and minimizing harm to participants. We discuss their interplay and how these areas can inform practitioners, reviewers, and interested readers of online video studies when evaluating the ethical standing of a study. With this study, we contribute to an informed and transparent discussion about ethics in online video research.

    • Zeitschrift für Praktische Philosophie / "Ein Jegliches hat seine Zeit“ : Altern und die Ethik des Lebensverlaufs

      Schweda, Mark (2014)

Polytechnic of Sibenik. Management., 2018-11-12)

Time i započinje najvažniji dio rada nakon kojeg slijedi i sam istraživački dio.
