AbstractIn a fast moving world where maritime transport corridors play a major role in the movement of people and goods, there are significant sustainability issues with these operations. This paper considers the sustainability of these corridors and the contribution of security and safety measures to achieve sustainability. The research commences with a literature review and practitioner survey on sustainability, security and safety of maritime transport, then develops the analysis using the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development (FSSD) and causal loop diagrams to analyze and evaluate measures and actions that could lead towards a sustainable maritime transport corridor - education and training, energy alternatives, waste management, dematerialization, efficient land and sea use, standardized operations between ports and community engagement. The Baltic Transport Corridor is used for analysis. Further recommendations are made in order to facilitate the path for future research and study.

The current global school strikes for climate action (known as Fridays for Future) evidences this. The book advocates the view that the focus needs to rest on ways in which our cities and industries can become green enough to avoid urban ecocide. This book fills a gap in the literature by bringing together issues related to the planning, development, and management of cities and focusing on a triple-bottom-line approach to sustainability.

The six topics cover: agriculture, forestry, fisheries, land and water, environmental law and regulations, and spatial planning. Each topic provides the context for and some background on the sector, key issues facing the management of the sector, potential sustainable development opportunities and initiatives and recommendations on actions to improve the development and management of the sector. The policy note includes a framework to develop nine elements of an enabling environment that would support the development of the province's natural resources, as well as a set of specific recommendations and initiatives.

Road and highway systems provide a critical function in creating and maintaining a desirable quality of life.
