Abstract
Promoting policies and practices towards sustainable developmentThe International Council on Metals and the Environment (ICME) has published this document as part of its ongoing efforts to provide information on environmental, health and related matters affecting the metals mining and producing industry. The contents of ICME publications range from general and technical information to discussions of policy and regulatory issues. The topics examined may be of interest not only to industry but also to others, including policy makers, regulators, educators and the public at large. ICME hopes that these publications provide insight into what are sometimes difficult and complex issues. Although the views expressed are those of the authors, ICME welcomes questions and comments on the perspectives and information contained in its publications. ICME also appreciates suggestions regarding other issues of public importance for possible future publications. Founded in 1991, ICME is a non-governmental organization that promotes sustainable development policies and practices related to the mining and production of primary metals, which will ensure the safe production, use, recycling and disposal of metals. In addition to publications, ICME’s extensive information program includes a Web site and a quarterly newsletter with a worldwide distribution. International Council on Metals and the EnvironmentDate
