¿Ante la mentirosa veracidad, la inverosímil realidad fotográfica?

Abstract

This text wishes to convey the diverse points of view regarding an old discussion that revolves around the “veracity” and the “verisimilitude” of photography – be it analogical or digital. To do this, there is an analysis on what is perceived as “real or true” in the photodocumentalism or photopress areas. Far from establishing a discussion on known theoreticians and historians of photography such as Benjamin, Barthes, Flusser or Sontag, I have preferred to deepen the state of affairs with regards to the philosophical tradition, delving through medieval times onto the century of enlightenment, until imbibing the stories of some contemporary writers and photographers. As it is well known, visual documents evoke clear or veiled ideological signs that recount technical choices, either formal or thematic, that represent the photographer.This is the topic that will be disentangled from an ethical view and plastered on the pages for journalistic publications, but also in order to comprehend the attentive spectator’s editorial perspective.

Este texto pretende abordar desde diversos puntos de vista una vieja discusión que gira sobre lo “veraz” y lo “verosímil” de la fotografía –ya sea analógica o digital, analizando lo que se maneja como “real o verdadero”, dentro de la fotografia documental o de prensa. Lejos de establecer la discusión con los reconocidos teóricos e historiadores de la fotografía como Benjamín, Barthes, Flusser o Sontag, se prefirió ahondar los caminos con un vistazo a los filósofos de la tradición, seguir por el medioevo al siglo de las luces, hasta imbuirnos con el relato de algunos literatos y fotógrafos contemporáneos. Como bien se sabe los documentos visuales evocan signos ideológicos claros o encubiertos en sus elecciones técnicas, formales o temáticas que representan al fotógrafo, éste es el tema a desentrañar desde la ética de la visión y la puesta em página por las publicaciones periódicas, también comprender el ámbito de la visión editorial hacia el atento espectador.
