Abstract
The article addresses some of the current ethical controversies surrounding health research in Brazil and internationally, considering their probable significance for health policy in the 21st Century. These controversies are consequences of the radical transformation observed in health research in the last three decades. This transformation has three elements: molecularisation informatisation and globalisation. The author argues that the Era of genomic and post-genomic research is introducing a new system for the study of diseases. The paper also discuss 'patenting Life' and 'protecting privacy of human genetic information' as crucial issues linked to the advent of the new system
